It's a new day in the world of Ty Segall, and every new day means another new song from the prolific LA-based rocker. For those of you that have caught one of Ty's live shows this year, this new release may sound familiar, and that's because he has been jamming it out alongside his Freedom Band — Emmett Kelly, Mikal Cronin, Charles Moothart, and Ben Boye — while on tour.
"Alta" is a hometown jam that doubles as a love song to Mother Nature, and the majestic character of the land pre-civilization. Ty is a master of melody which shines through as the song opens with his delicate piano playing, only to later erupt into a scorching, fuzzy guitar jam that we've come to love him so much for. Lyrically he professes his feelings for the city’s natural state with a bold declaration: “I would fight to save you / I would give my life.”
Ty recorded the new track at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini, during a break on tour this past spring, and marks one of many releases he's made in 2017 alone. Listen to the "Alta" below.
