Donald Glover is on roll this year. His show Atlanta, which he writes and produces, has gained much acclaim, he's slated a role in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars movie, and now he's premiered a new song as his hip-hop moniker Childish Gambino.
Heard first on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show, "Me and Your Mama" has both a rock and soul feel, filled with synths and strings. Gambino wails over the entire track, completely unravelling in the middle of the song and flowing into a beautiful extended section at the end that is just strictly instrumental.
The song comes as the first track on his upcoming album, Awaken, My Love! After news leaked early this week that Gambino’s next album was expected Dec. 2, he posted the official album cover to Twitter. You can peep it above.
Internet trolls figured out he’d already shown us the cover, though. In a scene from the season finale of his hit FX show Atlanta, what looks like a vinyl record shows up in different shots. It looked like cover art, and now it’s been confirmed that it was indeed.
The album will be Gambino’s first project since STN MTN, which he dropped in 2014.
