Every now and then, the crew of surfers that make up the Santa Barbara-based band Clean Spill will spend enough time out of the water to write new tunes. Their most recent release is a Strokes-sounding track called, "Friends," and exudes the feel-good vibes that caught our attention a few years back when these guys made their initial debut.
You can imagine what a typical day in the life of Clean Spill consists of: writing music, screwing around in the practice space, and having an all-around good time in Santa Barbara. This year has been quite eventful for the foursome, having recorded an LP, then deciding they wanted to go for a more raw sound; touring the US; meeting up with Hanni El Khatib and recording another LP with him; going on tour with El Khatib. Now after laying low over the winter, they're just ready to release new music, which thankfully for us, is due out next month.
The new single "Friends" was written about being young and naive, and having fun before the responsibilities of being an adult kicks you in the head. The track dives into how one can internally deal with these transitional thoughts, and also represents that moment of being pushed to the brink of insanity by overthinking.
