We don't think there's ever been an instance where we didn't warmly welcome a new release from Cults. The indie duo recently released a new single called "I Took Your Picture," which is their first release in four years, and was a slice of shimmering pop that takes their retro-pop in a bit of a new wave direction. It is hard-edged, with their signature scuzzy guitar motifs, and Madeline Follin's gliding vocals.
Now the duo has released a video for the track, but under a slightly longer name, "I Took Your Picture With My Eyes Closed". The video is an extended version with a second track, βWith My Eyes Closed,β and opens with a rain-drenched Madeline in a quaint cottage as the song develops into the insatiable new wave groove that drives the track. Madeline begins to headbang, until the room transforms: everything from the walls to the sofa becomes made of long, brown hair. The video takes a rather surreal turn, with Madeline being lifted off the ground in a beam of light; it's a total 80s sci-fi alien abduction moment.
