Dancing Tongues is a trio from Los Angeles and started as the brainchild of Kevin Modry, who plays the drums, and Alex Lavayen the band's singer and guitarist. Formed in 2015, the three-piece band which includes Josh Gonzales on bass, emits a distinctly new wave energy, but has no problem smoothly shifting into other genres that include garage and inklings of pop.
Drawing influence from the creative approaches of the late 70s punk movements and mid-century modern art, the band plays minimal post-punk that is both danceable and energetic. Their debut EP Positions proved the band's pronounced and deliberate rhythmic hex. From tracks like "Little Creatures," which quite obviously beckons the band's post-punk influences, to "Saturday," which traces the it's punk leaning roots, the EP is hypnotic and creates a undeniable dance floor vibe.
