Kaytranada Throws It Back With His Remix Of Afrika Bambaataa’s “Planet Rock”

December 7, 2016

Kaytranada had us from the get-go with his debut EP 99.9% earlier this year; his signature spacey disco-house vibe perfectly blends both hip-hop and dance music. Not to mention, 99.9%  was filled with featured guests like Craig David, Goldlink, Anderson .Paak and BadBadNotGood.

After recently putting his stamp on Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky” and Chance the Rapper's "All Night," Kay decided to remix Afrika Bambaataa’s 1982 classic, “Planet Rock.” The track which was originally recorded alongside The Soulsonic Force, is one of the many revolutionary songs that can be seen as a precursor to the genres of hip-hop and dance music.

The song is off the soundtrack for the upcoming documentary 808, which is set to premiere this Friday (Dec. 9) on Apple Music. The documentary focuses on the Roland TR-808 drum machine that has revolutionized hip-hop and pop music.

Listen to the Canadian-born beatmaker's spin on "Planet Rock" below.
