NYC’s Dress Code meets up with the Chocolate Skateboards Art Director and iconic artist Evan Hecox to see how he was able to help shape the landscape of skate art, in the new short doc “The Long Way”.
The four-minute doc is a portrait of the artist filmed in the desolate back roads and remote beauty of New Mexico and southern Colorado. Hecox meanders past desert landscapes, Taos Earthships, The Rio Grande Gorge, lonesome church ruins and Dennis Hopper's grave as he experiences the worlds that inhabit his work.
This film was produced in conjunction with an exhibit on view at Joshua Liner Gallery February 9 to March 11, which is filled with images captured throughout an extensive trip over the summer of 2016, in the above mentioned regions. The Long Way, the show, introduces a deeper, reductive approach to illustration with line work distilled into its essential forms, capturing subtle suggestions and projecting hints, of this arid, remote landscape.
