This year marks the 20th anniversary of former Pennywise bassist and songwriter Jason Matthew Thirsk's unfortunate passing. Los Angeles-based folk-punk band Hoist the Colors released an acoustic version of Pennywise’s “I Can Remember," in honor of Thirsk.
The band had the opportunity to play a memorial for Thirsk at the Standing Room in Hermosa Beach, CA, and featured performances by South Bay punk legends Pennywise and 98MUTE.
"We closed our set with 'I Can Remember,' a song that we love and that seemed fitting for the occasion,” said singer and mandolin player Josh Linden in a press release about the night. “Afterwards, we really wanted to capture our version of this amazing song as a tribute to Jason and Pennywise."
Linden and co. note that although they did not know Jason personally, his music was an inspiration for them to pick up instruments in the first place.
The song was recorded and can be streamed below. It is also available for free download here.
