Last week, we got a lil' something from King Tuff, his first new song in four years, titled "The Other," which is an introspective reflection of an artist's uphill battle with his own creativity. Now he's shared that the song will also be the lead track on his a brand new album of the same name. Along with the announcement of The Other, Tuff has revealed the official first single from the album via a video for "Psycho Star."
"Psycho Star" is a perfect representation of King Tuff's soulful and cosmic new direction. These new songs seem to have ditched the goofy rock-and-roll bacchanalia narratives of earlier records in favor of more expansive arrangements and instrumentation.
Tuff took to Twitter to introduce the new album saying, "The Other marks a new chapter for King Tuff. I went down deep into the void. These songs blasted me back into the sunshine. They saved me and I'm more excited about this record than I have been in a long time."
The Other is out April 13 from Sub Pop; guest collaborators include Ty Segall (drums), Jenny Lewis and Greta Morgan (vocals), and Mikal Cronin (saxophone). Watch “Psycho Star” and check out the cover artwork and tracklist below. Newly announced U.S. tour dates can be found here.
