While you all were hunting down Pokemon yesterday, we were hunting down live art murals in Long Beach, as part of the annual POW! WOW! Long Beach art event.
Centered around a week-long event in Hawaii, Pow Wow has grown into a global network of artists and organizes gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, creative community spaces, concerts, and live art installations across the globe. Pow Wow Long Beach began this Monday with over 36 artists hailing from a range of countries traveling to the casual beach town to throw up some magnificent murals throughout the city.
We spent time at some of the downtown Long Beach hotspots where we saw everyone from Parisian artist Kashink and Portuguese artist Pantonio, to legendary graffiti writer Defer and street photographer Martha Cooper, roaming the streets and painting as part of the week-long event. Kashink was hard at work on a mural called "Let's Keep Dancing, which is a tribute to those lost in the terrorist attacks in Orlando, France and elsewhere, while Pantonio put some finishing touches on his massive mural on the outside wall of the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Keep your eyes peeled for a "Between the Lines" episode where we treat you to a recap of the festival next week.
