Princess Nokia represents the unbreakable past of born and bred New Yorkers. Her rapping is both unapologetic and multidimensional.
She has been rapping and releasing tracks on YouTube and SoundCloud since high school, originally under the name of Wavy Spice before taking on the Princess Nokia moniker in 2013. Since then, she has released albums completely independently online under that name in the form of Metallic Butterfly, Honey Suckle and 1992.
Now the New York City rapper has dropped the video for her new track "G.O.A.T.," which not only has her cruising around the streets of her hometown in a bright red three-wheeler, but also marks her first release since signing to Rough Trade Records. "G.O.A.T." is one of six new songs that Princess Nokia said would accompany the re-release of her previous album, 1992. The video was produced by Wally West, co-directed by Nokia and Milah Libin, and carries a very 90s vibe to it, from Noka's tomboy baggy jeans and coinciding white bikini top, to the bright yellow bandana she wear under her red Yankees hat (remember this was Dipset's look).
The track provides a stuttered yet fluid flow from Nokia as she confidently claims she's "that weird girl that's running shit." And we would have to agree. Watch the new video below.
