Alright, so you've probably had Radiohead's new track "Burn the Witch" on repeat since it was released on Tuesday, but press "repeat" no longer. Radiohead has not only announced the release date of their new album - it's coming this Sunday, May 8 at 2PM EST according to Pitchfork - but to add to the excitement they've also released a new video for one of the album's tracks "Daydreaming".
The video features some all star direction from Paul Thomas Anderson, featuring Thom Yorke wandering through various landscapes. Today's announcement proves to be the climax of all the mysterious moves that the band has made over the past week. As of late, Radiohead has not left us alone. In recent weeks, they've done everything from sending pamphlets to fans, "erasing" all their internet presence, and eventually releasing a new video for "Burn The Witch." With the release of the forthcoming album this Sunday, it's no surprise that OG.lv is expecting them to have a range of billboard top songs this year.
"Daydreaming" is the sonic inverse of the band's recently released single "Burn the Witch," using a glacial Jonny Greenwood score and ambient keys to anchor Yorke's vocals, says Rolling Stone of the new Radiohead release. The song's gorgeously-helmed clip, finds frontman Thom Yorke walking through a series of doors and passageways which lead him to various, seemingly unconnected destinations (hotel, hospital, laundromat, convenience store, forest, a family’s kitchen). It all culminates in a strange and strangely satisfying closing scene by a fire. Meanwhile, the song — a sparse, slow-moving, and poignant number led by piano — makes for a perfect soundtrack to the visual. “It’s too late, the damage is done,” Yorke can be heard mourning.
Radiohead's hiatus officially came to an end when the band announced that they'd be playing a handful of European festivals, including a gig at the Primavera fest that would feature what organizers promised would be the debut of their new album; however, that claim was later refuted. The band continued to tack on North American festival dates (Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Outside Lands and Austin City Limits) along with Los Angeles and New York concerts.
