That silly wooden toy that so many of us spend time riding around on, is the very thing that fuels Toronto-based artist and skater Christian Stearry's paintings and drawings. Homeless dudes pushing grocery carts, skaters running over suits on the sidewalk, dirty chefs, and homies passing by on a bike are all amongst the cast of characters that Stearry runs into on the streets while skating and at his kitchen job as a cook, and ultimately interjects in his pieces.
Stearry, who goes by the moniker Sadskates on Instagram, makes work that undeniably is defined by his experiences as a skater. The people he meets while skating and the situations he find himself in has supplied him with a subject matter that he most likely will never becomes tried by.
