When Santigold announced her new album, 99¢, earlier this month, she made mention it would host quite a few collaborations -Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Hit-Boy to name a few. Over the weekend the singer released the first of these collaborative tracks entitled, "Who Be Lovin' Me," which features rapper ILOVEMAKONNEN, and easily digestible beat courtesy of Toronto-based production duo Zeds Dead.
The Atlanta Rapper croons “So tell me dear, what’s it gonna be?” on the chorus and delivers an entire verse as well. Zeds Dead said that they “met Makonnen on the Mad Decent Boat Party last year and knew he could kill this beat." Makonnen agreed and hit up Zeds Dead saying he and Santigold both were jumping on it. The track boasts a smooth, slightly hypnotic beat, that is both melodic and the perfect sonic backdrop for Santi and Makonnen's harmonies.
The track comes by way of a video directed by Santigold and her husband Trouble Andrew. Filmed in Philadelphia at Made In America, the video follows Santigold as she navigates festival grounds on a golf cart with ILOVEMAKONNEN, stopping intermittently to take pictures with fans and chop it up with fellow festival artists, including Big Sean, Earl Sweatshirt, A-Trak, De La Soul, Fabolous, Meek Mill, Vic Mensa, and more.
