There are few neighborhoods in Los Angeles that remain untouched by gentrification's contemporary clench; Boyle Heights is one of them. It also plays the main character in Southern California native D Tiberio's new video he co-directed for his track, "Untitled," featuring LA jazz singer Natasha Agrama.
The track, which is featured on the first compilation released on Timetable Records, the label belonging to producer and Kendrick Lamar collaborator Nosaj Thing, was filmed on a phone while skating because that's exactly how D Tiberio and his friends would explore the area when they were growing up, "except the phone has been replaced by grandma's VHS video camera,” says D Tiberio.
In an article on Nowness, D Tiberio talks about his personal portrait of the East LA neighborhood:
"The video is entirely filmed in Boyle Heights, East LA. I grew up there and my family has been living in the neighbourhood since my great grandparents immigrated from Mexico to California in the early 1900s. Boyle Heights is also one of the few surrounding patches of Downtown Los Angeles that hasn't been heavily gentrified, so I wanted to document what my neighborhood looks like right now in 2016."
