We've come to know Unknown Mortal Orchestra for its psychedelically soulful songs that glimmer with lo-fi pop sheen, but their new single "American Guilt," is a welcomed departure, with fuzzed-out guitars and heavy stoner-rock riffs.
The song which hints at new music on the horizon, is immediate and hooky, using surprisingly heavy guitars, a la JImi Hendrix, in a way you wouldn't expect from the Portland-based band. There are still obvious quirks that make "American Guilt" characteristically UMO, like Ruban Nielson’s helium-huffing vocals and complicated guitar playing.
UMO has also mapped out an extensive spring and summer world tour, so if you're smart you'd snag some tickets to go see these dudes live. Listen to "American Guilt" below.
