With an innovated use of color and imaginative subject matter, Miami artist Alex Yanes elevates every day items to art. As part of all the festivities going down around this week's Art Basel in Miami, Yanes is opening a unique exhibition called "Never Better."
Yanes, who's become known for his wood, acrylic, and enamel three-dimensional installations, will be showing 3 large scale installs, and some smaller scale works which were previously show at the Long beach Museum of Art, along with a brand new site specific install featuring the artist's trademark bluetooth speaker boxes.
Yanes decided to pursue art full-time in 2006. The Miami-native's work speaks volumes about who is he and what he has seen. His work is the result of his immersion in skateboarding, embodying the innovative use of color and imaginative subject matter seen on skateboards themselves.
Using reclaimed skateboard pieces, hand cut wood, acrylic, epoxy and resin, Yanes' work comes alive through perfectly pieced together components and colors. Each piece beams with life, depicting intricate and playful faces and characters.
"Never Better" opens tonight, at Ligne Atelier - 180 NW 27th Street in the Wynwood District, across from #WynwoodWalls.
