Angel Olsen - Intern (trailer)

June 3, 2016

After over 2 years of silence, Angel Olsen is back, and hinting at an upcoming release with an aptly titled track, “Intern (trailer)”. The accompanying video, which is merely two minutes, is a serious tease, leaving us wanting more, and highly anticipating her recently announced new album, MY WOMAN,  out September 2nd. The stripped down track has the same foundations as the music that has captivated audiences since Olsen’s debut in 2009.

However, "Intern (trailer)" also suggests a departure from her previous work, and ventures into a place of maturity and newfound confidence in all aspects. Her vocals have a dose more power than previously heard, and her lyrics have a satisfying amount of bite. This combines to create an ethereal track that will undoubtedly be listened to on repeat by new and old fans alike.

The track is unapologetically delivered, and features Olsen in a tinsel wig and microphone headset. “I’m gonna fall in love and run away,” Olsen repeatedly vows while staring provocatively into the camera. During the course of the clip Angel floats in and out of various vignettes, all while driving home her message in exquisite falsetto: ”Falling in love, but I swear it’s the last time”, she practically whispers before the song fades out.

With this visual, Olsen completes the transition from angel to alien, and the result is satisfyingly otherworldly. If this video is indeed just a “trailer” for what is to come, Angel’s upcoming project is certainly something to keep an eye out for.

Olsen’s last full length album was 2014’s Burn Your Fire For No Witness. Since then, she has collaborated with a number of artists but had yet to release any of her own music until now. Her new album MY WOMAN is set to release September 2nd on Jagjaguwar.
