San Francisco's Cool Ghouls epitomize the insatiable, sunshine optimism of the late 60s counter-culture with their new single "Gord's Horse", from an upcoming tour only cassette.
Inevitably, when listening to Cool Ghouls, you'll recall performers of the past, other summoners of the same spirit, whose fingers were also channels through which rock'n'roll was made physical. And while there are definitely some references to other incarnations of rock, "Gord's Horse" is more Laurel Canyon classicist than psychedelic experimentalist, their quicksilver melodies sound oh so sweet.
Despite Cool Ghouls mid-fi leanings and natural fit within the current pantheon of San Francisco and LA rock ‘n' roll bands, theirs is a timeless sound, which will hopefully transcend the descriptors — garage, psych. The reason being — they write damn good songs.
