Two of Los Angeles' most genre-defining artists have come together in what may be the best collaboration we've heard this year. Funk ambassador Dâm Funk, and modern R&B pop provocateur Nite Jewel have teamed up and dropped a collaborative EP together called Nite-Funk. It's been a 7-year collaboration in the making - initially spurred during the Myspace days - pairing Nite Jewel's more disco-leaning productions and Funk's recognizable bass-synth sounds into a delectable and tripped-out record of soulful synth pop.
The pair has been teasing their collaborative project for some time now; Nite Jewel contributed to Dâm Funk's 2015 album Invite the Light. The next year, "Can U Read Me?," a slow-jam duet, appeared on Funk's DJ-Kicks mix, and now only a few weeks later -- just after Gonzalez' Liquid Cool album surfaced -- Funk released the four-track Nite-Funk EP on his Glydezone label.
The two Los Angeles-based producers share a penchant for analog synths and old-school drum machines and have over the years fostered a match made in boogie heaven.
